Serving Those Who Served
The Veteran Trade Exchange Initiative was founded on a simple belief: the discipline, leadership, and sacrifice of military service should open doors — not close them.
Born from Service. Built for Impact.
The Veteran Trade Exchange Initiative (VTEI) was established in 2026 in Charleston, South Carolina, by veterans who recognized a critical gap: thousands of men and women leaving military service lacked clear pathways into meaningful, skilled careers — while communities around the world faced shortages of trained tradespeople and essential infrastructure.
VTEI was created to bridge that gap. By combining vocational training, international exchange, and veteran-to-veteran mentorship, we transform military experience into economic opportunity — for veterans, for communities, and for nations. Launching our inaugural U.S.–South Africa exchange program, VTEI is building a model designed to expand veteran-led workforce development partnerships to additional countries in the future.

Meet the Founder
William Mason
Founder & Executive Director
Charleston, South Carolina
William Mason founded the Veteran Trade Exchange Initiative with a clear conviction: the discipline, leadership, and sacrifice that define military service should be a launching pad — not a ceiling. As a veteran himself, William witnessed firsthand the gap between the skills veterans bring home and the pathways available to them in civilian life.
Drawing on years of experience in veteran community leadership and workforce development, William built VTEI from the ground up — designing the 90-Day Exchange Model, establishing the U.S.–South Africa pilot program, and assembling the organizational framework to support veterans on two continents. His vision is a global network of veteran-led workforce development programs that transform communities through education, skilled trades, and service.
Veterans don't stop serving when they take off the uniform. VTEI gives them a new mission — one that builds communities, creates careers, and leaves a lasting legacy.
